1-29-09 Wednesday Memory Walk

I woke up this morning to 6 more inches of fresh snow thus adding to 38 inches accumulation thus far, I decided to make this Wednesday memories of my past winters, when snow was FUN!
The boys loved the snow and I did, too. We lived on the top of a rather steep hill so the enjoyment of fresh snow was to get the sleds out and go down the hill. We had a red plastic toboggan-type sled that I would get on with Mark and go down.
Here Mark Alan is 2 and John Michael is 4. The winter of the 78 blizzard the state was actually shut down and we were told to not try to take any vehicle out. So we walked everywhere, to the stores and had so much fun talking with our neighbors amd making new friends.
Notice the Big wheel John Michael wanted to drive it in the snow, but it was too difficult. The sleds were better.

Below are some current snow images:

The boys would love to up there with grandma and poppy right now. Nolan keeps asking why God won't let it snow here where we live. He looks at the weather map on TV and asks where is the snow????

What a wonderful stroll down memory lane. I handled snow much better in 1978 than I do not.

Vicky, Perhaps when the boys are older they might be able to spend some time in the winter with us so they can enjoy the snow. We would love that, unless of course we have have moved closer to you.

George, I must say I handled many things in my life so much better when I was in my 30's.

Brrrrr, but magical too! Isn't it strange that adverse weather has a way of making people more neighborly?! I have fond memories of meeting new people in storms and snow drifts from my youth too! Thanks for sharing... brrrr... fancy some sun from New Zealand? Perhaps I'll have a word with the weather God's?! My girls would love a day to play in all that snow! Swap their swimming togs for hats and scarves for a day!

Here in SE Texas we rarely get any snow, but we did get a few inches this year and it was probably a once in a lifetime experience for my girls! All we get is Hurricanes, but it's true that these weather events do bring neighbors together in ways that would never happen otherwise.

Great pics! I loved snow as a kid when I played in, then when I had to drive in it I started hating it. I'm anxious to watch my boys play in it, so I can learn to love it again. Although I would never love 38 inches!!! Whoa!!!

I wished it snowed like that here, well maybe not that much. I would be good with a good snow that lasted like three days, and then warmed up.

I loved your pictures.

Thanks for posting....

Sarah,
That would be magical to swap locations for a day or 2. Your girls will most likely love the experience of the snow and making a snowman or igloo. I woud love a bit of your warm weather as a change.

Kristin,
We get a our share of hurricanes during the summer. I remember Hurricane Carol - August 31, 1954. There was so much destruction.

Nutty mom,
Thanks for your comment. I don't think I would want just the ice, it can be so dangerous to drive, sometines we get the black ice and I won't drive.

Paula, I appreciate you stopping by to visit.

Tanya,
I love having you visit and comment.

Julie,
You will definitly love playing in the snow with your sons. Their excitement and amazement is contagious and you will become infected with joy and laughs having so much fun.
You are right RI has had too much snow I'm ready for the big thaw.

The Mazza's Munchkins,
I agree with you 3 days of snow is enough. In fact I would like to have only one snowstorm and that would be my winter. Let's get on to spring, I'm ready for the crocus to sprout

I enjoyed looking at your family pictures from the '70's. Those were great days! I LOVE the name Breakneck Hill Road. It conjures up all kinds of hills and valleys in my mind. So fun!

Cherdecor,
Breakneck Hill Road is a very winding road that the Lincolnites are very aware of and drive this road extra cautiously. There have been many accidents especially during the winter. Thanks for stopping by.

I love the snowy photos! We had a mere dusting of snow for my grandchildren to admire! I would love to have a good ole Southern snow storm...just for a few days :)
As a child I lived in Germany and Colorado so I remember Great Snow!
I don't think I would want to dig a car out anymore!

Hi Connie,
Would you believe as I write this blog RI is getting its 4th
snowstorm, 3-8 inches more.
I love the beauty of a fresh snow fall, but hate to have to shovel it and do not like to drive on the treacherous roads.
The main ones are fairly plowed and sanded. I appreciate your visit, please come again.

Hi Elizabeth,
So happy that you found me. I have already added the link on my blog for the New England bloggers, being from RI.
Hot wheels were the favorite of my sons, they loved going down our hill. Fortunately during the time they did this our road was a dead end that cars did not pass unless they lived in the 3 houses on the street, and they all watched for all of our children's safety. A car would stay at the bottom to let them know there were children in the street driving their hot wheels. Could never do it today, too many cars and now no longer dead end.
